Hockey Management podcast: Offside

In this episode, I discuss offside (when an offensive player enters the defensive zone before the puck). Sales representatives may sometimes go offside by promising things that operations and manufacturing can’t deliver on.

How will you know when areas of your organization are going offside?

Andrew Miller on operational excellence, strategy, life balance and everything in between

Toronto – June 1, 2015
For the past few days, I have been recovering from shoulder surgery, which has afforded me more downtime than I am used to. Upon reflection, it occurred to me that you need to be ready for anything if you want to be successful. And there is only so much you can prepare beforehand.
I’ve know for weeks that I was going to have surgery on my left shoulder (I am left-handed), but it was only after the surgery that I realized how difficult it is to do things like shaving and brushing my teeth with my non-dominant hand. It takes some getting used to and improves every day.
Organizations must have a mix of preparation in anticipation of known changes combined with the flexibility that allows them to react to any unanticipated situations.
How prepared are you for changes that might happen in your business? And more importantly, how ready and able are you to make the necessary changes when something unexpected happens?
