Andrew Miller on operational excellence, strategy, life balance and everything in between

Toronto – March 11, 2013

2013 has been a great year so far for the economy. Stock markets in North America are rising, many companies have cash reserves that they will be looking to spend, and job are being created as a result of new growth. This is all good news. The organizations that will thrive in this environment are the ones who can manage their growth effectively. That starts with hiring the right people. We have seen many organizations fail because they didn’t focus enough on bringing in the right people.

Successful companies aren’t afraid to recruit the best people from other organizations or pull talented people from other industries. My ACM model identifies the three attributes that are most important to an organization when hiring: Attitude, Competency, and Mindset.

  • Attitude means that employees have a passion for the organization and what it is trying to accomplish and are excited about being a part of it.
  • Competency means that employees have the right capabilities to do their jobs or have the ability to learn them.
  • Mindset means that employees recognize the value of collaborating with peers and come to work every day looking for ways to improve the performance of the company.
If any one of these attributes is missing, the employee will not last very long with the organization,” says Andrew Miller, President of ACM Consulting. “Organizations must integrate these three attributes into their hiring process in order to attract better people and make better hiring decisions.”
